The dog is protagonist, best friend and guardian-angel, of men’s life since ancient time. In the archaeological site of Pompeii we have the most famous evidence of this relationship: “Cave Canem” mosaic, in the House of the Tragic Poet, that inspires our project title.
The Agreement, signed by the Commissario delegato Marcello Fiori with National Organizations for animals rights (Lav, Enpa, Lndc), establishes that the stray dogs will be looked after, treated, vaccinated and registered in the aim to look for a house and a family love.
The stray dogs, without care and regular assistance, would be hill and became dangerous for people security above all in the archaeological site of Pompeii that is daily visited by 10.000 tourists.
Stray dogs control is a right step for visitors serenity. This first action guarantees food and nurturing in three dog’s care zones within the walls of Pompeii site. At the same time (C)Ave Canem Project will promote, according to Pompeii ancient traditions, a positive relationships between dogs and tourists. The dogs will be provided with a tag, a microchip and European Passport in order to simplify their adoption.
Each dog would be introduced with a short story in order to explain the personality and life style.
The (C)Ave Canem Project will be implemented in three months.
